Kamisama no Memo-chou Episode 3 – A Family Reunited
We were all left hanging at the end of episode 2 about the cellphone mystery and plenty of unanswered questions surrounding the case of the missing father. Episode 3 concludes the case with Alice in kimono and Narumi joining Souichirou’s gang. xD
Spoilers Follow
(Read blog post about episode 2 here)
And so the yakuza gang goes to Minli’s café (which serves as Meo’s hiding place) to look for the girl. Minli promptly says she can’t remember, to which the gang responded with ruckus. It turns out that Meo contacted her father at that location.
Alice instructs Narumi to keep an eye on Meo. They both figured out that Meo will contact the gang to give the money in exchange for her father. Meo did just that. Thankfully Narumi is there to save her. They run for their lives until cornered by the yakuza. Souchirou and his gang enters the scene just in time to save them both. Narumi feels he is weak. He turns to Souchirou’s gang and becomes a member of it (with a ceremony and Alice in Kimono.)
The NEETs meet up and explains the situation to make it clear to everyone and to us viewers. They come up with a plan to divide the money Meo has into smaller amounts and then deposit it to the bank under Kusakabe’s (the missing father) account. In this way, the Yakuza under Mikawa, our main antagonist for the case, will be force to turn Kusakabe out to withdraw the amount himself.
Next is the brawl scene where the NEETs, Souchirou’s gang, and the yakuza fight while Kusakabe and Meo finally see each other.
Impressions Follow
Pretty weird. I thought the cellphone Alice found is the one that pinpoints the yakuza group towards Meo’s location. But it isn’t. lol
You’ve got to admire Minli in the confrontation scene and the one that follows (where the yakuza vandalizes her shop.) She acts tough and doesn’t show any form of weakness. With one open revelation to Narumi, we found out that she also has something to keep on her own – about her father. Of course she wants to see her father but she will definitely beat that guy when he meets her.
I thought Narumi joining Souchirou’s gang is a bad thing to do, but hey, gang or not, Alice trusts him her life, and I guess Narumi did a good thing here. This means will see more of Souchirou in future episodes and his backstory will definitely be expanded later. ^_^
Narumi has some character progression here about his choice to become responsible. Other NEETS don’t have the progression I thought they will have here. Tetsuo stands out apart (again) from the rest of the NEETs, while Souchirou and Minli get a spot of their own in this episode.
Wow. The ecchi moments are gone. In exchange we have cute fanservice (if we can call it that way) in the form of Alice in kimono and the ending scene with her being forced to try some clothes.
Final Thoughts
To sum up, we saw a good resolution to the case. Even at times the details were overly vague, at least the anime points out everything in just one go. We’ve got applaud the fact that there are minimal ecchi scenes now. Episode 4 coming up!
The Good: the ending of the case. nuff said
The Bad: can we really put up that kind of case in front of an organizes crime syndicate?
The O_O: What was the name of the big teddy bear? I thought I did not see that here.

Check out what others are saying...-
[...] because it is not the ramen he usually does (to which their shop is once famous for.) Remember in episode 3 where Minlin talks about her father suddenly leaving and what she wants is some sort of revenge? [...]

Ahh…I was surprised that Narumi and Yondaime became sworn brothers. I never saw that coming.
Plus Alice says something cool about the white-haired guy back then- telling Narumi that Souchirou doesn’t share sake with everyone. Coolness level up!
